Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch is an Octopus in Apple Wallet that uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to make contactless payments for transport, shopping and dining in Hong Kong – by just tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch at Octopus readers. You can easily add a new Octopus, top up, or manage your existing Octopus - all on your iPhone or Apple Watch using Apple Wallet or the Octopus App.

To use Octopus on Apple Pay, you need to do the following:

1. Have an iPhone 8 / iPhone 8 Plus or later, or Apple Watch Series 3 or later;
2. Update your mobile device to latest version of iOS / watchOS;
3. Enable Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode; and
4. Set Hong Kong as your device region.
5. Be logged into your iCloud account

To transfer your Personalised Octopus with Student Status to iPhone or Apple Watch, you need to meet the following:

1. Holding an eligible physical Personalised Octopus with Student Status; and
2. Aged between 13 to 25

If your MTR Student Travel Scheme has expired, you need to apply for renewal of your Student Status via MTR to continue to enjoy the MTR concessionary fares.

Please note that if you have submitted an application for MTR Student Travel Scheme with your physical Personalised Octopus, please do not proceed with card transfer. You can activate or renew the Student Status with your physical Octopus card, and then transfer it to Mobile Octopus.

If you own a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, you may choose Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status when you submit your electronic application via Octopus App or MTR website. After receiving the email of successful application, you may directly add Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch (Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status).

Please ensure you have met the following conditions when applying for the Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status:

1. Aged between 13 to 25 years old
2. Currently enrolled as a full-time student studying in a recognised institution in Hong Kong

Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch is just like your physical Octopus card with the added benefit of being able to top up on the go using your credit or debit card on iPhone or Apple Watch. You can also transfer fund from your Octopus Wallet to Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch, use Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch to apply Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS), as well as collect public transport fare subsidies, and make online payments at designated online merchants via the Octopus App.

The stored value limit is HK$3,000.

If your physical Personalised Octopus, which has been transferred to Mobile Octopus, has a photo printed on it, it indicates that we have a corresponding photo on file for your Personalised Mobile Octopus.
