Manage your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch (Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status)
Where can I find the Octopus number?
The Octopus number is displayed on the Octopus image in the Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch enquiry screen in the Octopus App, or can be found by opening Apple Wallet > select Octopus > click “…” > Find the Octopus number at “Card Information”.
Please make a note of the number, in case you are required to provide it to our staff when making enquiries.
How do I renew the MTR Student Travel Scheme for my Mobile Octopus?
You can apply the MTR Student Travel Scheme renewal for your Mobile Octopus via MTR website. After successfully applying, you can activate your Mobile Octopus via Octopus App.
Step 1
Sign up for the Octopus Wallet and follow the instructions to enter your mobile number and email address. Once verified, the setup will be completed, and your Mobile Octopus will then be automatically registered in the Octopus App.
Step 2
On the Octopus App, under “Manage Octopus” > “Quick Actions” > “More”> tap “MTR Student Travel Scheme”.
Step 3
Select “Renewal / Existing Octopus Activation”.
Step 4
Select an Octopus for activation, tap “Next”.
Step 5
Enter your identification document number and date of birth, then tap “Accept and continue”.
Step 6
Tap “Activate” to confirm the activation of your Student Mobile Octopus.
Step 7
After activation, you can choose to pay the $20 administrative fee using the balance in your Octopus Wallet or Mobile Octopus.
Step 8
Once the transaction is completed, you have successfully activated your Student Mobile Octopus.
Please note that if you are applying MTR Student Travel Scheme renewal for your physical Octopus card, please do not proceed with card transfer. You can activate your physical Personalised Octopus with Student Status first, and then transfer to Mobile Octopus.
How do I register my Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch in Octopus App? Why must I do so?
Your Octopus will be automatically registered in Octopus App once you log in to the app and select Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch, using the mobile device which holds the Octopus.
After registration, you can conduct all online services in Octopus App for this Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch, such as adding value to your Octopus, checking the transaction history, making online payments, transferring funds from Octopus Wallet or collecting bonuses.
Why can't I have Octopus on Apple Pay on both iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time? Or on 2 iPhones / 2 Apple Watches?
A single Octopus cannot be stored in Apple Wallet across multiple devices.
To use it on both iPhone and Apple Watch, you can add separate Octopus cards to each device. Each device can hold up to 12 Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch.
If you would like to use your Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch on another mobile device, you can transfer it together with the remaining value and other Octopus Services such as AAVS. How do I check the remaining value and transaction history of my Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch using the Octopus App?

Open Octopus App, click "Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch".

How do I transfer my Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch from my iPhone to my Apple Watch?

Open Watch app.

Click "Wallet & Apple Pay".

Click "Add" Octopus under "OTHER CARDS ON YOUR PHONE".

Click "Next".

Will I lose my Octopus on iPhone or Apple Watch if I sign out of iCloud or reset my device?
No. As long as you are connected to the Internet before signing out from your Apple ID or resetting your device, your existing Octopus will be removed from your device and backed up to your iCloud account. You may re-add your Octopus to your device by signing-in with the same Apple ID and using the Wallet app or Watch app.
