OKAbout Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay (Personalised Mobile Octopus with Student Status)
Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay is a digital card stored in the secure element of a designated mobile device, which can use Near Field Communication (NFC) to make contactless mobile payments and add value transactions by tapping the mobile device on Octopus readers. It can also be used to make online payments and fund transfers with an Octopus Wallet. You can add a new Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay or manage your existing Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay easily with the Samsung Wallet app.
Please click here to see the mobile device models that support Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay and the location of the NFC antenna of each model. Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay is compatible only with mobile devices sold by authorised retailers in Hong Kong.
To use Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay, you will need to update your mobile device to the latest system software. The Samsung Wallet app will remind customers to update the software if it's not the supported version.
To transfer your Personalised Octopus with Student Status to Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay, you need to meet the following:
- Holding an eligible physical Personalised Octopus with Student Status; and
- Aged 13 or above
If your MTR Student Travel Scheme has expired, you need to apply for renewal via MTR to continue enjoy the MTR concessionary fares.
Please note that if your physical Personalised Octopus with student status has submitted a renewal application, please do not proceed with card transfer. You can activate your physical Octopus card, and then transfer to Mobile Octopus.
You can use Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay just like a regular Octopus, via any Octopus readers in Hong Kong. You can also transfer fund from your Octopus Wallet to Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay* as well as make online payments via the Octopus App at designated online merchants.
*The fund transfer service from Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay to Octopus Wallet will cease effective 20 May 2020. However, the service of topping up Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay from Octopus Wallet will not be affected.
The Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay will become an Inactive Mobile Octopus and an Inactive Mobile Octopus Administrative Fee will be deducted from the remaining value and deposit after 3 years of inactivity, and annually thereafter if it remains to be unused for any transaction.
